Episode 1 Village to city: Did it work?

Ten years in White Horse Village

Film series June 2015, BBC Newsnight and BBC World News

In the past three decades I've watched China redefine itself from nation of poor farmers to economic superpower. More than a billion lives have been transformed along the way. In 2005 I started following one rural community in south west China as their farming village gave way to a city. I wanted to focus on individual hopes and fears, joys and sorrows. Over the course of a decade, I came to love the people we filmed and I treasure this series. I hope you like it too.

Episode 2 Girl Power: Three generations of women in one family

Episode 3 Hero to zero: The fall of a Communist Party secretary

Episode 4 Self-made millionaires: The rice farmers who made it rich
